2004 Fifty Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon

Paso Robles

If you haven’t heard the story of how this wine went from grape to glass – you should stop by the winery for a glass and ask us. Suffice it to say that it was adventure fit for Don Quixote! That being said, this is the winery’s finest production and Brian’s coup d’ grace for the 2004 production.

The color is an inky dark purple, and sticks to the glass like glue – what legs!

First off, the nose on this wine is massive—so many aromas that it was difficult to catalogue all of them. Immediately, a load of butterscotch and caramel enshroud a layer of violets. Down deep, there is also a bit of allspice and raw wood which lends to the character of the wine.

This endeavor is really fat in your mouth – coating with lots of toasted cranberries and figs. There is still an undercurrent of raisins and finish of dark cocoa. The overall finish for the wine is very well balanced and smooth, though not exceptionally lengthy. Again, this is a food wine – fit to be served with the finest dry aged filet or prime rib. Looking forward to trying this again in a few years to see it further mellow out and gain an even silkier edge.
