Barbera Red Wine
Originating in Italy, this wine is generally characterized by a high level of brightness and crispness, with a deep red color and a full body. The Barbera is a young (but not tight) wine, and ready to drink now. It boasts a spicy back end with hints of cinnamon. Look for hints of toasted bread, vanilla, cherry, and raspberry. Also look for a touch of green apple.

Los Olivos
As one of the faithful's favorites, not too many people even know of the Barbera varietal, but it's what put Carlsbad Coastal Winery on the map over five years ago. This year's Barbera did not let us down. A good friend tracked down a fairly famous winemaker (Lucas and Lewein) and convinced them to sell us a ton of his best Barbera fruit. Finally, in early November, we got a call from the Vineyard Manager that the Barbera would be ready that weekend. The grapes were hand picked that Saturday morning, and delivered to the winery that afternoon where they were crushed immediately. We produced just over 500 bottles, and we expect to be sold out by 3rd quarter of 2007.
